UPCOMING EVENTS
_______________

Fur-free Friday!

It's 2009 and animals are still being killed for clothing. There are many other options to keep warm then using fur bearing animals for clothing. Whether it's a coat or fur trim it still all spells death for millions of animals. Now our best friends cannot escape the fur industry as dog and cat skins are used for coats and trim.

It's not elegant, beautiful or sophisticated to wear fur. It only says an animal was violently killed for his skin.

Let's educate consumers about the fur industry so they won't wear or buy fur. Help to end the suffering and violent deaths of minks, rabbits, opossums, beavers, raccoons, foxes, Karakul sheep, and many other kinds of animals.

Dear Friend of Animals,

The Vegan Pledge is fast approaching. The details are now set, and you can now reserve your place in the free program by emailing leila@foaphilly.org and telling us that you plan to participate.

Friends of Animals will provide vegan counseling in the form of vegan mentors, cooking classes, free vegan lunch, nutritional and health guidance, and even shopping classes. The free program will also include medical screening tests (like cholesterol and blood pressure) and a vegan care package for each participant. Meetings will be held on five Saturdays starting January 16, 2010 in a meeting room at the First Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia (21st and Walnut, using the 21st street side entrance). Meetings will start at 11:30 A.M and will generally end around 2:00. We are understanding of people's schedules, and if you let us know that you will need to arrive late or leave early, we will accommodate your schedule and will do our best to make sure that you still get the most out of our program.

Veganism is the most direct form of action you can take to help animals. There has never been a better time or a better way to try the vegan lifestyle, so please respond to reserve a spot in the 2010 Vegan Pledge!

UPDATE: Vegan Drinks Philly 11.25.09!

Vegan Drinks Philly 11.25.09!
7-10 PM
$16.50 gets all-you-can eat food!
New Harmony
135 N 9th St
Philadelphia, PA 19107
Beer and Wine available for a donation.

Hi all!

Sorry to do this to you, but I needed to increase the price of the admission for the Vegan Drinks Philly pre-Thanksgiving celebration to $16.50 per person. Unfortunately, there was some confusion concerning tax and gratuity when I originally set this up. It's still a great deal! Please note that the price of $16.50 includes tax and gratuity.

As stated previously, wine and beer will be provided for a donation per drink and the funds raised will benefit Chenoa Manor. In case you missed it, there was a lovely article about Chenoa Manor in the Philadelphia Inquirer yesterday. The donations are already coming in as a result, but don't forget that we STILL need to raise nearly $200,000 to renovate the 200-year-old barn for the animals and children. Please donate if you can. Little by little, dollar by dollar, we will reach our goal and make Chenoa Manor even more amazing than it already is!!

Please consider coming out for Vegan Drinks Philly at New Harmony for great food and to meet like-minded individuals! Don't forget to order your tickets before the 22nd! Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Vegan Drinks Philly 11.25.09!
7-10 PM
$16.50 gets all-you-can eat food!
New Harmony
135 N 9th St
Philadelphia, PA 19107
Beer and Wine available for a donation.

Hi all!

I hope this message is finding everyone well as we prepare ourselves for the annual carcass feasts. I have good and bad news for Vegan Drinks Philly. I'll give you the bad news first.

Unfortunately, Horizons will be unable to host Vegan Drinks Philly until further notice. That's the bad news, but there's also good news that comes out of it! Vegan Drinks Philly is going on its 10 month strong and will now be held at the ALL VEGAN restaurant, New Harmony!!

New Harmony is BYOB, so we have worked out a creative idea to not only provide alcohol, but also the raise money for our favorite sanctuary, Chenoa Manor! The new structure of Vegan Drinks (at least for this month anyway) is going to be that you need to purchase a ticket in advance for $15. That ticket will cover the cost for an all-you-can-eat vegan Chinese buffet.

As far as the alcohol goes, there's a way we can use it to help us raise much needed funds for Chenoa Manor. Vegan Drinks Philly will provide wine and beer that will be available for a donation per drink. The donation will be no more than an average drink price and the money collected will be used to cover the cost of the alcohol and the rest will be donated to Chenoa Manor. Individuals may also bring their own alcohol if they wish.

I know there are A LOT of changes from our regular routine, but I think this will ultimately make us more effective going forward. We can try it out for this month and see how it works. We only have space for roughly 40 people, so I suggest you purchase your tickets now. I know it's annoying that it will cost money now, but if you ever ordered food at Horizons, it's not really costing much more. Plus, the drink donations all help Chenoa Manor in their amazing efforts!

There are a couple of other exciting enhancements I'd like to make to our monthly events, but I'm keeping them a secret for the time being. You will be filled in soon enough ;)

Please help spread the word with this one, because attendance wasn't so great at our last event. Remember, Vegan Drinks Philly is for all vegans, vegetarians, and veg-curious!! Bring friends!

Thanks to everyone for continuing to support Vegan Drinks Philly and helping to create a strong network of individuals that are getting connected to create massive change for animals starting right here in Philadelphia!!!

Head on over to www.vegandrinksphilly.com to purchase your tickets today. You have until Sunday the 22nd to do so.

See you all there!

Vegan Drinks Philly THIS Thursday!

Vegan Drinks Philly
10.22.09 from 5:30-8:30

It seems like attendance is slightly down this month, so please bring friends! Vegan Drinks Philly is not only a great way for seasoned activists to stay connected and make contacts, but it's also a great place to introduce non-vegans to the idea of veganism.

If you haven't done so, please sign up for the email subscription to receive updates. Facebook is very restrictive with message sending, so sometimes updates will be sent out through here that will not be sent through Facebook.

All you need to do this Thursday is show up! Bring friends too! See you there!!

If you are not on the Animal ACTivists of Philadelphia calender, you NEED TO BE! There are demonstrations and events almost daily that are highly under-attended.

The animals need our help and need us to be their voice. Even if you can only offer a couple of hours, it's better than nothing! Look how many of us attend Vegan Drinks each month. Imagine if we could transfer that energy to the streets to change hearts and minds!

MAJOR, MAJOR HELP is needed to staff the upcoming UniverSoul Circus making an extended stay at Fairmount Park near the end of this month.

After a two year absence, the UniverSoul Circus is back in Philly. .

We will be doing pre-circus leafleting in the weeks prior to the circus's arrival as well as demonstrations at every evening and weekend show.

Thanks!

Thank you to everyone who has continued to support Vegan Drinks Philly for the past eight months and we hope to continue these events for many months to come.

Please keep in mind that there is a lot of behind the scenes work that goes on to prepare for these events each month and both myself and the wonderful people at Horizons have been working very hard to keep these events going.

I have recently been receiving many calls and emails thanking me for the wonderful event, especially after this past one. I would like to take a moment here to redirect these comments to the people that really put on the show.

Please take a minute or two of your time to express your kind regards to those folks at Horizons who have been instrumental in making these events happen. You can shoot an email to horizons@horizonsphiladelphia.com and you can also call 215.923.6117

It certainly means a lot to me to hear such kind words from all of you, but I'd like to make sure the people that really deserve it are hearing you. I thank you in advance for taking these few minutes of your time to do this.

Vegan Drinks Philly is the luckiest Vegan Drinks event in the country because we are one of the only events that is at an exclusively vegan restaurant and we're the only event with such spectacular cuisine. I'm 100% committed to keeping this thing going so long as we have continued support from all of you. Thanks!!

Vegan Drinks Philly 8.27.09!

Vegan Drinks Philly
8.27.09 @ Horizons (upstairs)
5:30 - 8:30 pm
**no cover**bring friends**

It's time again for another Vegan Drinks Philly, the monthly social event for vegans, vegetarians, and veg-curious! Now that we have six months of success behind us, we need to keep the momentum up and see if we keep this going for a year.

Philadelphia is now one of fifteen cities to host regular Vegan Drinks events. Maybe by this time next year there will be hundreds! Thanks to everyone who has been to any of our events so far, because without a crowd, Vegan Drinks Philly wouldn't be possible.

Don't forget to bring friends because everyone is welcome to attend and it might even be a good way to introduce someone to the idea of veganism. For those of us who are already vegan, it's a great way to meet other like-minded people from a variety of interesting backgrounds.

Moving forward, it looks like we will continue to host Vegan Drinks Philly monthly at Horizons and maybe throw in a few special events here and there.
That being said, we do have a quick message from Horizons:

"Horizons is very happy to continue hosting Vegan Drinks Philly this month. As these events become more and more successful, the folks at Horizons wanted to pass on a few reminders about the event. So for those of you who are returning for another Vegan Drinks night and to those of you who will be attending for the first time:

1) This is a much more casual atmosphere than a typical night at Horizons. You can head right upstairs and seat yourself. If you want to experience the full menu and regular dining room service, you can always book a table afterward in the first floor dining room which stays open until 10:00pm.

2) You can order food at the bar or from one of the servers in the dining room. Either way, please have a credit card handy to run a tab. Of course, you can still pay with Cash or with Visa/Mastercard when you're finished, but this step helps the Horizons crew remember who's who and who ordered what!

p.s. Chef Rich Landau was invited to cook at the James Beard House in NYC on Tuesday November 3rd. This is a huge honor for Horizons because he is the first Vegan Chef invited to cook there. If any of you are interested in attending the event, we will have details available at the next vegan drinks!"

So spread the word and don't forget to sign up your email at www(dot)vegandrinksphilly(dot)com

See you there!

Thanks to everyone who attended the VDP special event on July 4th. Due to your overwhelming generosity, we were able to raise $100 for each organization involved, Public Eye: Artists for Animals and The Vegan Bus!

Since the next VDP is so far away, I wanted to keep you informed about a couple of upcoming events you may be interested in attending:

Saturday, July 11, 2009 (and always)
11:30 am - 1:30 pm
Philadelphia Zoo entrance

The Philadelphia Zoo announced that it plans to move Kallie and Bette to a breeding facility sometime after the July 4th weekend. Officials are misleading the public by telling them that the elephants are moving to a "sanctuary" and that "no one is talking about whether or not they will be bred." We owe it to Kallie and Bette to at least get the facts out as much as possible about where they are going and what the zoo plans to do with them. The elephants MAY be moved by this Saturday, but we'll still be there, if only to mark the event with signs saying "Kallie and Bette- gone from Philly, but NEVER forgotten - we'll keep fighting for sanctuary!"

Can you block off an hour or two to help educate the public on the reality of the life of an animal confined in a zoo? Thanks!

Bittersweet update!

4th of July ExtraVEGANzaa!
6-11 pm B.Y.O.B.
New Harmony Vegan Restaruant
Tix- $20 (includes dinner and donation)

Okay, I have a bit of a bittersweet update for you guys. I'll give you the bad news first. Due to unpredicted and financial difficulties, the Vegan Bus will not be making it down this weekend. It's all good from here. The Vegan Bus gang will still be heading down here, just bus-less.

I am pleased to announce that we will be having a raffle to help raise money for the Vegan Bus and there will be a grand prize of a one-night stay at Farm Sanctuary NY. There will also be a second prize of some awesome apparel from the Vegan Bus and Vegan Radio.

We sold a lot of ticket so far, but there are still some left that can be purchased upon your arrival tomorrow.

Although it's B.Y.O.B., Vegan Drinks Philly has decided to bring two bottles of Yellowtail wine (chardonnay and shiraz) for anyone who would like some in exchange for a small donation to support the groups involved with this event. If anyone would like to bring some extra beers or wine that they want to donate to this project in an attempt to raise more money, please do. What a great fundraising idea, get a drink and help the cause. It's what Vegan Drinks is all about!

Remember, we need money now more than ever to free the Vegan Bus and keep it rollin' across the country inspiring people everywhere to GO VEGAN!

If anyone has any questions, please email ed@vegandrinksphilly.com

See you there!

One week until liftoff!

Greeting everyone!

Vegan Drinks Philly is now only one week away and will be held again at Horizons (611 S. 7th St) on 5.18.09 from 5:30 to 9:30 pm!

There are a couple of exciting updates for this event. First and foremost, be sure and spread the word to all vegans, vegetarians, and veg-curious who may be interested in attending as it looks like the confirmations via Facebook are a bit on the low side as of right now. I realize not everyone has Facebook and you are not required to RSVP, but it does give us a good estimate of how many people will be attending. That being said, Horizons just remodeled the downstairs lounge area, so it would be great if we could get enough people out to be able to open both floors once again to see how awesome it is!

I am pleased to announce that there will be yet another musical guest this month. Hoagy Wing, of the band Slo-Mo, will grace us with his musical talents! Hoagy is an awesome percussionist and it's bound to be quite a treat for us to have him perform.

In other news, Vegan Drinks Philly was featured in the latest VegNews on page 63 in an ad that highlights Vegan Drinks events around the country. It really has become quite a grass-roots phenomenon. As the ad says, we are sweeping the nation one martini at a time ;)

Vegan Drinks Philly was also a topic for discussion on the latest episode of Vegan Radio. I joined Scott and Derek live on the air to speak candidly about topics ranging from Vegan Drinks Philly to Vrapple! There was also talk of a possible hookup between Vegan Drinks Philly and the Vegan Bus project this summer, I'll keep you posted!

Stay tuned for any last minute updates that may occur. Also, don't forget to help spread the word in any way you can so we can continue the make Vegan Drinks Philly bigger and better! I have included a copy of the flyer for this event, so please post it anywhere you can. This will do a great deal of help to get people out and the week before an event is the best time to post it!

Thanks for all of your continued enthusiasm and support for Vegan Drinks Philly and I hope it is serving it's purpose to connect each other with like-minded individuals and encourage us to take ACTION!

Living without exploiting,

Reminder!!

Vegan Drinks Philly
4.20.09
5:30 to 9:30 pm
@ Horizons (611 S. 7th St)
no cover, drink and appetizer specials!

Don't forget, Vegan Drinks Philly will be taking place again this Monday, 4.20.09, from 5:30 to 9:30! This will be our third event and Horizons has been more than generous enough to allow us to again take over the ENTIRE restaurant. Last time was a huge success and if we want to keep this momentum going, we need to support it. All you have to do is show up!

Remember, this event is open to ALL, vegans, vegetarian, and veg-curious alike. The purpose of the event is to create a cohesive, organized group of individuals that can connect and learn from each other to start a real movement in Philadelphia. As a group of individuals, we are representing one of the most important issues of our time. By joining together, just think of the impact we can have on human health, the environment, and the lives of animals around the world!

So, let's keep this going. Many people that have attended past Vegan Drinks Philly events have already made new friends, learned more about a vegan lifestyle, and organized local events to get active for the cause. Most importantly, we have the opportunity to eat great food, kick back a few drinks, and celebrate life without animal exploitation!

Even if you can't make it to this event, be sure and spread the word. The more people that get involved, the more people are going to take notice ;)

See you there!

Vegan Drinks Philly 4.20.09!!!

Vegan Drinks Philly 4.20.09, 5:30-9:30pm @ Horizons 611 S 7th St, Philadelphia, PA

Can you believe this will be our third event already? When Vegan Drinks Philly started in January, who would have known it would have brought in a crowd of more than 100 people? For the second event in February, Horizons decided to shut down the restaurant to give everyone a bit more breathing room and the turnout was similar.

Due to the continued demand, we will again hold Vegan Drinks Philly at Horizons and open the entire restaurant solely for the event!

People from all walks of life and all ages and background have come out to show their support and celebrate life without animal exploitation. Relationships and organization amongst the Philadelphia animal rights/vegan/vegetarian movement has occurred along the way.

Please join us again on 4.20.09 and bring your friends. Remember, whether you're vegan, vegetarian, or just veg-curious, ALL are welcome to attend.

P.S. Thanks to everyone who attended Vegan Drinks Philly on 3.23.09! We held our first fundraising event through a raffle and had some great prizes! Needless to say, we raised $327 to split between the Humane League of Philadelphia and Chenoa Manor farm animal sanctuary!! In addition, Kate and Rich over at Horizons donated an additional $50 to each of the causes!! Thanks to everyone who participated, the money will certainly go to good use ;)

Chenoa Manor

Please support Chenoa Manor animal sanctuary.

“Chenoa Manor is a non-profit animal sanctuary in southeastern Pennsylvania's Chester County. Our focus is on rescued farm animals and exotics. Chenoa Manor does not accept domestic animals at our sanctuary.
Our mission is centered on animal protection and the promotion of a more humane world through educational programs and events targeted for at-risk teens, while advocating the benefits of a compassionate vegetarian and vegan lifestyle.”

Unfortunately, Chenoa Manor’s founder and director, Dr. Rob Teti, is unable to attend this evening’s event. I personally got a chance to go out and visit with Rob and the animals at the manor last week. The animals treated me as one of their own, the sheep and goats flocked around me, the turkey was on full display for me, and the cows nudged and bumped me as if I were as big as they were! Rob told me he was going to remodel the 200-year old barn on the property into another extension of the sanctuary. The animals will really enjoy being able to hang out in it. This project is estimated to cost around $200,000 so I thought Vegan Drinks Philly could help. Please join me in supporting Chenoa Manor and stop by for their first tour of the season on April 11th!

Vegan Drinks Philly, this Monday!

Vegan Drinks Philly

3.23.09 @ Horizons (611 S 7th St) 5:30 - 9:30 pm

Hi everyone!

This is just a reminder that Vegan Drinks Philly will be taking place in about two days! I hope everyone is excited!! There are a few announcements to be made:

First, we will have LIVE music! It will be an acoustic set by Jack Myers. Check out a video of him playing at the World Cafe Live here: www.youtube.com/jackbmyers

Also, there will be raffle and there are many great prizes that will be given away! ALL of the money collected will benefit the Humane League of Philadelphia and Chenoa Farm Animal Sanctuary. I have been involved with the Humane League for some time now and they are doing a great job with vegan outreach here in Philadelphia, in addition to the many other projects they have underway to advocate for animals. I also recently got the opportunity to visit Chenoa Manor and was touched by each and every animal that has the honor of living there. Unfortunately, the awesome guy who makes it all happen will be unable to attend this event, but I thought it would be great to get some money together in order to help rebuild a 200 year old barn at the sanctuary that will be used as housing for some of the animals. This project is going to cost approximately $200,000, so our help is greatly needed! Some of the items to be raffled off include:

a signed copy of This Crazy Vegan Life by Christine Pirello
a $30 gift card for VeganChic.com
a Whole Foods gift bag valued at $50
an Essene gift card for $25
a signed copy of Making a Killing by Bob Torres
and a full reiki session!

One more week!

Vegan Drinks Philly

3.23.09 @ Horizons (611 S 7th St) 5:30 - 9:30 pm

Don't forget, there is only one week left until Vegan Drinks Philly. I am pleased to announce that there will be a silent auction to benefit Chenoa Manor and The Humane League of Philadelphia.

As of now, we have a couple of signed books by your favorite vegan authors, some gift cards for food and vegan products, and a few other odds and ends. It's not a lot, but any money we can gather will certainly go to good use.

That being said, we are still seeking donation requests for silent auction items, so please contact ed@vegandrinksphilly.com with any suggestions. We are also still looking for a musician to play a small, acoustic set for the event. At this point, compensation will be in the form of food and drink. Maybe next time, when we have thousands of people attending Vegan Drinks Philly, we will have something more to offer ;)

Incase you haven't noticed, VegNews is now sponsoring Vegan Drinks events across the nation, so we are beginning to get some real recognition. Again, the more people that some out, the better, so bring friends and be sure to spread the word.

Through connecting with like-minded individuals and introducing others to a vegan lifestyle, there is no doubt that we will put some real momentum into the animal rights movement here in Philadelphia. If you have any questions or suggestion concerning the event, please be sure and contact ed@vegandrinksphilly.com

See you there!

-Ed

P.S. Death on a Factory Farm airs tonight on HBO! Be sure and encourage family and friends to watch it.

Also, if you would like to get pro active about advocating for animals, there are a few events coming up. I'm sure you will meet plenty of people at Vegan Drinks Philly that you can team up with!

2 weeks away!

Vegan Drinks Philly 3.23.09 @ Horizons (611 S. 7th St.) 5:30-9:30 pm

Hi everyone!

There are only 2 weeks left until the big event! This one will certainly be bigger and better than last time. We will have the entire restaurant to ourselves! Horizons will be offering another FANTASTIC Vegan Drinks menu that will again feature many low-priced appetizers and beverages ;) One of the things we are focusing on for this event is local, Philadelphia beers and wines. We may even have some local media visitors out to cover our story! How exciting!!

We are still searching for items that could be used to set up a silent auction to raise money for Chenoa Manor and the Humane League of Philadelphia. Right now, I have a signed copy of This Crazy Vegan Life that was generously donated by Christina Pirello. Unfortunately, in order to do the auction, we are going to need more stuff. If you have anything, or know anyone who might be interested in donating something such as artwork, gift baskets, gift cards, or maybe some vegan treats?? Don't be afraid that any contribution is too small. PIease get in contact with me for suggestions: ed@eatingconsciously.com

In addition, there MAY be an acoustic music set! Nothing is set in stone yet, but I am actively seeking musicians who may be interested in playing this, or future Vegan Drinks Philly events. Again, it must be acoustic because of restrictions by the city for the location (no amplified sound). Wouldn't it just make it a real party if we had some live music? Again, if you have any suggestions for this contact me: ed@eatingconsciously.com

What else? Oh! The people!! All of you! I know some of you are teetering on the edge of coming. The more support we get, the more we can do with these monthly events in the future. People are taking notice even after the first Vegan Drinks event and the more support we have, the more recognition we get. Pretty soon we could have a vegan city, right? So, remember ALL are welcome to come. Vegans, vegetarians, and even the veg-curious! Everyone should feel comfortable at Vegan Drinks Philly and maybe even walk away with more than they came with. If it weren't for all of you who supported the last event and continue to support this one, NONE of this would be happening. Spread the word, forward this letter, bring lots of friends, post flyers, you know what to do!

Everything is really coming together as we speak and there may even be a few more exciting details to be announced shortly. Be sure and check out Vegan Drinks Philly on Facebook and also sign up your email at www.vegandrinksphilly.com to stay up to date. Hope to see everyone there and don't hesitate to get in contact with any suggestions or ideas.

See you at Vegan Drinks Philly! ;)

-Ed

P.S. Don't forget to come out on May 2nd for The Humane League of Philadelphia and PAWS Walk for the Animals. It's going to be HUGE!! Also, don't forget that on March 16 on HBO, they will be airing Death on a Factory Farm, by the same undercover agent who brought you Dealing Dogs. This would be great for friends and family to tune in to.

Vegan Drinks Philly 3.23.09!

It's official! Due to the high turnout and demand for more Vegan Drinks Philly events, I am thrilled to announce that the next Vegan Drinks Philly will occur on March 23rd, 2009! But that's not it!

After a careful review of the surveys collected from the attendees of the first event, we have carefully planned the second run of Vegan Drinks Philly to make it even better. So, if you missed the first one, that was nothing!

Horizons vegan restaurant has been generous enough to come in on their days off and let us have the ENTIRE space to ourselves! This will nearly double the floor area for us. And that's still not all...

The event time has been been extended, so we will now have Vegan Drinks Philly from 5:30 - 9:30 pm! This time extension will hopefully allow for greater attendance from those traveling in from the suburbs and those who get done work a bit later.

There's still more exciting details to come, but that's all I am authorized to divulge at this point ;) I can assure you it will only get more exciting from here on out!!!

Spread the word and bring friends! Remember, vegan, vegetarian, and veg-curious are ALL welcome ;)

See you there!

-Ed Coffin

psst... we are currently seeking musicians and artists that might be interested in donating their efforts to this event. Please email ed@vegandrinksphilly.com to discuss the details.

If you are able and willing to spare some funds, it would be greatly appreciated. Your donation to Vegan Drinks Philly will go towards organizing, promotion, supplies, and entertainment for future Vegan Drinks Philly events! Every little bit helps ;) http://tinyurl.com/c8pqnu

Thanks!

Thank you so very much to everyone who made it out last night. For those who couldn't make it, I'm happy to say there WILL be a next time. I am in the process of scheduling the next event as we speak and will let everyone know the details asap!

To those of you who were able to attend, it would be extremely beneficial moving forward if you could fill out this brief survey.

I am very thankful for all of the kind words I have been recieving for "organizing" this event, but I must admit that it really was all of you who made this thing happen. It really took on a mind of it's own which is fantastic.

When I started planning it last month I truly thought I would be lucky to get 20 people out! I think we should all be proud to know there are so many like-minded people in and around Philadelphia. Hopefully, we can continue to cultivate our network of people and create a real movement for animals beginning with us!

I hope everyone had a great time and I wanted to leave you with some pics and a quick video segment from last night. I planned on recording videos there with anyone interested, but I think it was too loud for the camera. ;) If you have any pics or video from last night that you want me to put up, let me know, or just post them to the Vegan Drinks Philly group on Facebook. I'll post the pics and videos I have shortly.

Stay tuned for upcoming details of the next event...

Thanks again!!

Reminder

I hope this message finds everyone well.

I wanted to touch base just to confirm a couple of key details concerning Vegan Drinks Philly.

First and foremost, I wanted to thank every who has confirmed so far. The turnout should be amazing. We have over 50 people confirmed via Facebook, 30 confirmed via email, and dozens who have not RSVP'd! Horizons should be packed ;)

As I had mentioned before, RSVP is not necessary, so people should feel free to attend as they wish.

There is no cover charge, it's pay as you go and there will be drink and appetizer specials.

You are encouraged to bring omnivore friends as well, as this would be such a great way for people to introduce them to the idea in a fun and neutral environment. There will be vegan leaflets available courtesy of Nick Cooney, the director of the Humane League of Philadelphia.

Ultimately, this event should be great to meet like-minded individuals and experience the wide range of diversity in the community. One of the hopes for this event is that through direct contact with others, we can begin to organize a strong movement here in Philadedelphia. This will be a great opportunity to learn about different types of activism and how you can get involved.

Due to the huge interest, I have decided that Vegan Drink Philly will continue to be a regular event. Shortly after the event, I will send out a brief survey to collect information to help plan the next Vegan Drinks Philly!

This Thursday is going to be awesome!

See you there!! ;)

ONE WEEK TO GO!!!

We have roughly one week left until the FIRST Vegan Drinks Philly, a celebration of life without animal exploitation.

If you are marked as confirmed, or have RSVP'd, then all you need to do is remember to make it out. If you are marked as maybe, or still considering it, it's time to think about making it out ;)

Remember, the better the turnout, the more likely this will be a monthly event. Flyers will begin going out this week, don't forget you can download and print them from the Facebook page, or at www.vegandrinksphilly.com.

As of right now, there are more than 50 people confirmed, but surely we can do better! So, post a link, send an email, hang a flyer, bring a friend, in other words, bring people in!

This is already setting up to be a great event, let's keep it going!

3 weeks away!

Well, our first Vegan Drinks Philly is only a mere three weeks away! How exciting ;)

We have already confirmed over 40 people and hopefully we can double or triple that by the time Feb. 19 rolls around. Invite all your friends (remember, vegan, vegetarian, and veg-curious are ALL welcome).

The better the turnout, the more likely that we will continue this event on the third Thursday of every month.

I know there are some people who are still on the fence about it, so I just wanted to remind you how quickly it is coming up and how much fun it is going to be! Not to mention all of the awesome people you're going to meet :)

By keeping connected, we will be certain to strengthen the animal rights movement here in Philadelphia. We can do it! Let's set an example for the rest of the country.

GO VEGAN!

P.S. Don't forget to use those handy flyers to spread the word. Horizons is going to be PACKED! Let's do this!

Don't forget, RSVP is appreciated, but not necessary. To RSVP, email eatingconsciously@gmail.com, or confirm via Facebook.

See you there!

Let's make this happen!!

Alright, so here we are, we have a cool website, now what? Right now, we are currently working on setting up a monthly meeting place, which will hopefully be an awesome Center City vegan restaurant. We are hoping the first Vegan Drinks Philly will take place in mid-late February. In order for this to happen, we need people to commit to attending and help spread the word. If you are interested in attending a Vegan Drinks Philly monthly social event, please email Ed @ eatingconsciously@gmail.com Also, if you haven't read what we are all about, please find out now! We can't wait for this to be a reality, but we need YOU to make it happen! Stay tuned for the date and meeting place of the first event ;)

What is Vegan Drinks Philly?

The first Vegan Drinks started up in NYC in May 2008 and was a product of SuperVegan.com. Since then, Vegan Drinks have been popping up in cities across the nation. So, what exactly is Vegan Drinks? Here's the lowdown from VeganDrinks.org:

Vegan Drinks is a monthly social networking* event for people interested in promoting veganism and advocating for animal rights. Vegan Drinks’ mission is to bring together a diverse group of people—from cupcake aficionados to animal lawyers to veg*ns of all stripes in between—to build new coalitions and promote the sharing of resources. Vegan Drinks is for newbies and oldies. All we expect is an interest in animal rights, veganism and the pursuit of after-work fun. Show up and introduce yourself, pass around business cards (if you've got ‘em) and embarrass yourself at least once an hour.

*Although we think love is grand, Vegan Drinks is not a singles’ event. But, if you happen to meet the love of your life at Vegan Drinks, don't forget to invite us to the wedding!

Now, yet another Vegan Drinks takes root here in Philadelphia, founded by Ed Coffin of eatingconsciously.com in January 2009. So, put down the leaflets and sit back to network and socialize with like-minded individuals. Together we can cultivate ideas, spread the vegan message, and work towards our one common goal- ANIMAL LIBERATION.
